derealization

US$300.00

DEREALIZATION is an abstract expressionist self portrait on a 11×14 canvas. This piece is a vulnerable portrayal of my battle with depersonalization-derealization disorder, and how I visualize myself through the lens of it. The best way to describe my experience is the feeling of living in a dream. There is an overwhelming sense of confusion and disbelief, and a persistent doubt that things, including myself, are not real. Because of this, I sometimes feel as though I am being pulled in many different directions, I am fading at the edges, and I can’t see myself clearly. I wanted to tap into those strange and uncomfortable thoughts and feelings, and let them out onto the canvas. It is often quite scary and disturbing. But I aspire to choose to see the beauty and fluidity in it all.
